South Hell Ending: What Starts It and What Happens When You Escape

Last updated:

The ending begins with the fourth key and its 4/4 alert, then finishes at the basement exit. Here is what the escape prompt, results screen and badge show.

Quick answer

The South Hell ending starts with the fourth key, not with the exit: picking up the last key turns the HUD to KEY FOUND 4/4 and sets off a red alert from Cartman that sends you running to the basement exit. Pressing E at the open exit door ends the run on the 'You Escaped - MEDIUM' results screen, which arrives together with the Escaped! badge popup.

  • If the red alert has not appeared yet, the key hunt is not finished — the HUD key count is the quickest check before heading for the basement.
  • The exit only becomes usable once the final lock opens; wait for 'The exit door is open. Get out!' on screen before pressing E (Escape).

What actually starts the ending

The ending is triggered by finishing the key hunt, not by reaching the exit door. In the recorded run the fourth key is the Green Key in the COMPUTER LAB, and the pickup changes the HUD to KEY FOUND 4/4 with the item label A Green Key. Those two readouts are the game's confirmation that the set is complete.

The moment the count reaches four, the screen flashes red and the text runs through three lines: RUN, then CARTMAN: GIVE ME THOSE KEYS!!, then HE KNOWS YOU HAVE THEM ALL. NOWHERE IS SAFE NOW - RUN TO THE EXIT!. The alert does two jobs at once. It tells you Cartman is now aware you are carrying the full set, and it replaces the search objective with a single instruction: get to the exit. The only route the message names is the exit itself.

If that red alert has not appeared yet, the key hunt is not finished, and the HUD count is the simplest thing to check before heading for the basement. Once 4/4 is on screen, the alert has already pointed you at the exit, so the remaining work is the run there rather than more searching.

The last stretch to the basement exit

After the 4/4 alert, the route to the finish is through the corridors and the gym to the basement exit. The exit carries a final lock, and the state change to watch for is the message The exit door is open. Get out!. That line is what separates a locked exit from a door you can actually leave through, and it appears once the final lock has been opened.

With that message on screen, press E (Escape). The Escape input is what ends the run; the footage shows no separate confirmation step between the prompt and the results screen. If you are still collecting the set, the South Hell keys page covers the hunt that produces the 4/4 alert, and locked doors covers the doors that stand between you and the exit.

What happens when you escape

Pressing E brings up the results screen for the run. In the recorded escape the heading reads You Escaped - MEDIUM, with a total time of 15:34 and these counters:

  • Keys you found: 4
  • Times caught: 1
  • Cartman in your traps: 1
  • Ike screamed at you: 1
  • Times you hid: 1

The counters describe the run that just finished rather than extra conditions you had to satisfy. The clearest example is Times caught: 1 — a catch was recorded and that run still ended on the escape screen, so a catch can appear on a run that escapes rather than replacing the finish. Keys you found: 4 lines up with the four keys the alert required, and the other three counters record events during the run: Cartman being held in your traps, Ike screaming at you, and how many times you hid.

The heading pairs the outcome, You Escaped, with a MEDIUM label. What matters for the player is that the run is over and the summary is the record of how it went.

The Escaped! badge

The results screen arrives with a Roblox badge popup titled Badge Awarded - Escaped!, which awards the Escaped! badge. It appears at the same point as the summary, so the two describe one finish: the results screen is the run's own summary, and the badge is the award for finishing a run by escaping. In the recorded run that popup is shown alongside the stats rather than at any earlier point in the escape.
